Welcome to the Downtown Area Support Group!
Postpartum Support Charleston offers this group to all expecting and new mothers as a way to connect and support each other. Our mission is to raise awareness and support moms struggling during the postpartum period. We recognize that being a new mom is challenging. We also know that 1 in 5 moms is dealing with stressors like OCD, anxiety and depression. It can feel like you’re the only one, but know that you are NOT alone. We invite you to us in this safe, supportive group.

Where: Center for Women, 129 Cannon Street (parking is FREE at 30 Bee Street – the MUSC Student Health Building)

Meet the Facilitator – Amber Allen
I experienced postpartum depression in varying degrees after the birth of both of my children. With the first, I found relief through talk therapy; with the second, with pharmaceutical medication. I am thankful that both were available to me, because it helped me through a period of time in my life where I really needed help being the best mother I could be.
I am passionate about helping women going through postpartum mental disorders because we are not meant to do this job of mothering alone. And when we feel alone, we suffer. When I meet women who are suffering, I let them know that there is help available and that they will get through this — because I did, and I am better because of my experiences.
Professionally, I am a postpartum doula and a yoga instructor, with Bright Heart Mother Care, who specializes in working with women during their childbearing year. When I am not mothering my two children and being with my husband, I love to paddle board down Lowcountry streams and hang out with my mama friends.
