Hi Jill,

I'm sorry you are struggling with the OCD. I have been in the same place you are right now and I want to let you know it does get better. I read that you are on meds for the PPD, has your doctor given you anything for the OCD? Celexa is an SSRI (anti-depressant) that in the higher doses helps with the OCD symptoms.

I understand how frustrating is it to feel that everthing is contaminated, especially when all you want to do is protect your baby. I take Celexa and my depression is almost completely in remission now. The OCD symptoms flare up when my stress levels get too high. My biggest problem was the unwanted and intrusive thoughts, but I get the germ thing from time to time too.

One of the OCD support groups I used to belong to recommeded reading the book called "Brain Lock". It's based on the concept that the best treatment for OCD is a combination of medication and behavior therapy. This book is suppose to walk you through those steps. I haven't read it, don't have time with 4 kids, but almost everyone in the group who had read it said it had helped them a great deal. I'm sure you can find it on Amazon.com or you local bookstore.

Do you have someone you do therapy with? That's an important part of getting better from PPD and PPD>OCD. Those two illnesses carry so much anxiety and stress and the benefits of talking it out do help. Having someone who is on your side to work out strategies for when you're having a bad day is so important. And remember, until your waaaaaay better, only focus on current issues, no going into your past to try and work that stuff out. Save that for when you feel better and are stronger. With PPD and PPD/OCD you need to focus on the moment.

I hope I haven't rambled too long. Be gentle to yourself and remember it will get better! Lorena
