Hey, Sandy

Yes, I would suggest you get your daughter to her OB immediately. Perhaps later, she may prefer to see a psychiatrist who is more familiar with drugs used in treating depression. Please encourage her to insist on being seen within the next two days -- sooner, if possible.

Please give me a call at 843 881-2047 at your earliest convenience so I can give you more personal help. I'll also send a free copy of an excellent PPD treatment manual and some other free PPD information if you will email your address to me.

It is vitally important for your daughter to receive a diagnosis and medical treatment as soon as possible so a possibly severe case of PPD can be avoided. You're right, what she is experiencing is far different from general depression -- it's much deeper. But it is totally treatable! Your daughter will recover with good treatment.

Keep assuring her she is going to get well and give her as much support as you are able. Relieving her of as much stress as possible is also very important.

If you live near Charleston or Columbia, SC, there are PPD support groups available for you, your daughter and your son-in-law. Our next meeting in Charleston will be held May 4 at the location listed on this website. I can email directions if needed.

Please call me or if you prefer, give me a number where I can call you.
