Hi Karen,
I had the same thing happen to me. My speech problems came on almost 3 years after the birth of my first son. My PPD had gone undiagnosed and untreated until then. I did have almost all the other PPD symptoms too. The night I went to the hospital, I couldn't speak at all. It's like my brain had short circuited. I'd start to say something and then stop half way through, with a complete and total blank.
On top of that, there was this wierd slow motion sensation when I tried to get the thoughts from my head and out of my mouth. My therapist said she had seen that problem in other patients whose depression was severe. I also had problems understanding things I was reading. I would read the words but couldn't make sense of them. Forget about making decisions. It was very exhausting.
I'm glad happy for you that you've begun to get help. Hang in there.
Lorena
